SEO Pictures

SEO pictures to get an extra edge when your posts and articles are being ranked by search engines. Many people miss this step and include pictures in their articles that were simply given numerical names by their digital camera software. Search engines will see and rank the picture file name even though we can’t see it in the post so always consider the keywords of the article and include them in the picture file name. Thanks for the info Phil. A lot of people miss this when adding images to their websites.
I do have one question for you. By adding the word “Image” to the photo name or caption, does this help to rank a photo in google images? Just curious if you have found this to be true? – Russ Larsen – Taking Aim Marketing.com.

  Hi Russ- The search engines know when they come upon an image because of the file extension- jpg or gif for example. So just keyword rich names and you’re set.

I didn’t know that! In fact, I always use the ‘alt text’ when I inserted images, so I thought to use the keywords in the name of the file wasn’t important. I was wrong. Thanks another time! Regards.

  Thanks Gerard- The alt text is so if for some reason the image is not displayed the text is the alternate- and it helps for those who have a translator that converts text to spoken words- for the visually impaired. If you have a picture with alt text they cannot see it but the text will be read so they know there was a pictire and what it was about.

Thanks for the advice Phil. I am a novice, and have just started working with my website. I plan to put some more photos on it. I had already downloaded the images, but now I am renaming them and will download the renamed versions!

Wow am I glad you have done this article. I went to all of my own and sure enough I had all digital numeric names on my pictures. Thanks for this article Phil, very informative and more useful….
